I.R.I.S. - Identity Theft Reporting Information System - Office of the Attorney General, State of Utah

Special Agent - Attorney General

Mark Shurtleff Welcome to IRIS, the Utah Attorney General’s Office Identity Theft Reporting Information System. Identity theft is now the fastest growing crime in the nation. However, it is a crime that is infrequently reported. About 33% of identity theft crimes are reported to law enforcement. Only by reporting identity theft crimes to law enforcement can we begin to impact this personally destructive crime.

Right now victims of identity theft spend many hours trying to recover their good name and good credit. It is my hope that IRIS will greatly reduce this burden for Utah citizens. If you are a victim of identity theft, IRIS will guide you through the reporting process and automatically route your complaint to the appropriate law enforcement agency. IRIS will even provide you with a list outlining the steps you need to take to resolve the problem. IRIS is an identity theft education web site as well, with helpful identity theft prevention tips, identity theft legislative information and other helpful resources.

I would like to thank the Chiefs of Police and Sheriffs' of Utah, the Utah Peace Officers Association, the Utah Department of Public Safety, the Utah Automated Geographic Reference Center, State Department of Technology Services and the sponsors listed on this web site. Without their contribution and combined effort, IRIS would not have been possible. With your help, we can make a real difference in stopping identity theft.
